Chefas Projects is pleased to announce Mundus, our first exhibition of 2026, welcoming back the curatorial vision of The Jaunt. Inspired by journeys through Italy, South Africa, Kenya, and the United States, Mundus brings together original works and limited-edition prints that pulse with color, shape, and form, offering a contemporary reflection on travel, identity, and shared visual language.
The exhibition features works by Jillian Evelyn, Georgia Hill, Elléna Lourens, and Keya Tama, four artists whose practices traverse geographies while remaining deeply personal.
Jillian Evelyn explores the complexities of womanhood through contorted female figures, graphic shapes, and a restrained color palette. Her work confronts the anxieties born from contemporary societal expectations. After spending several years in Los Angeles, Evelyn returned to her hometown of Detroit, where she studied and rediscovered her passion for visual expression, ultimately leading her to pursue painting full time.
Hailing from Australia, Georgia Hill works as a truly contemporary traveling artist, recently expanding her practice across Europe. Through her own visual language and writing, Hill responds to shifting environments and lived experiences, perceiving architecture and landscapes as both physical and psychological spaces. Along her travels, she collects personal references, photographs, and notes, which are later abstracted and transformed into paintings, installations, and murals.
South African artist Elléna Lourens has developed a distinctive style centered on capturing emotion through subtle yet powerful compositions of intimate human figures. Using refined color schemes and expressive line work, she seeks to redefine emotional iconography through an intuitive aesthetic. Lourens balances her studio practice with mural projects around the world and collaborations with fellow contemporary artists.
Now based in New York City, Keya Tama is a South African artist whose practice examines the intersection of ancient iconography and modern folklore. Employing recurring motifs of people, animals, and nature, his murals and paintings tell stories that bridge past and future. A committed collaborator, Tama has worked with artists including Elléna Lourens, Seth Pimentel, Faith XLVII, and others.
Mundus invites viewers into a shared visual world shaped by movement, memory, and cross-cultural exchange, an exhibition that reflects both the intimacy of personal journeys and the universality of human experience.
The opening reception for Mundus will take place at Chefas Projects on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 5-8 pm. Located in Portland, Oregon, at 134 SE Taylor Street on the first floor of the Taylor Works building, Chefas Projects invites the public to explore this unique exhibition, which will be on view through February 28, 2026.
