Stephanie Chefas Projects is delighted to welcome Portland born/Brooklyn based artist Laura Burke to the Annex space with Inside Outside. In her most recent series of pastel and colored pencil drawings, Burke magnifies banal moments to make them extraordinary. Each piece has a contained element to it, holding expressive and painterly marks inside a deliberate edge. Vibrant, mushy pastels contrast with saturated and precise pencil, mirroring landscapes contained within windows, vessels and flowers. The process of making each piece is meditative and unplanned. The work is built out and balanced as it progresses, prioritizing pattern and color theory. Burke’s main intention behind the work is for the viewer to be held in something familiar but unknown, questioning the line between inside and outside. 

Opening Day for Inside Outside will be held at Stephanie Chefas Projects on Saturday, January 22nd from 1-6pm. Masks are required and social distancing practices are encouraged. Stephanie Chefas Projects is located in Portland, Oregon at 305 SE 3rd Avenue on the second floor of the Urban Row building. The exhibition will be on view through February 19, 2022 and is free and open to the public.
