Stephanie Chefas Projects is delighted to welcome Portland based artist Alex Proba with Gemstone Groceries, a vibrant new collection of paintings and wall sculptures by the artist.

Proba’s multidisciplinary practice evokes a reverence for life’s quiet moments. Using her surroundings as the main source of inspiration in her work, she draws from sensory and visual information to intimate the experience of finding beauty and joy in unexpected places. Born in Germany, Proba studied Spatial Design at Akademie Mode & Design Hamburg, Germany, and then Contextual Design at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Netherlands.

“Every piece carries the daily joys of a simple life like a dream carries the stars in a bag for you to browse. Gemstone Groceries holds the possible and the impossible in a warm embrace like blueberries and rubies sharing the same bowl, sensibly crazy, beautifully simple. A garden of nostalgic delights unlike anything, outside of time, inside the heart.” - Kalle Crafton

Proba has been recognized by Print Magazine for its annual New Visual Artists Review, selecting 20 international designers under the age of 30. Her clients include Vogue Italia, LuluLemon, Google, Nike, Target, AIGA, Dropbox, Harry’s, Madewell, Rag & Bone among many others.

Some of her favorite and most adventurous projects include the Marrow House Pool, Palm Springs; Life in Vogue 2019 Installation; the Google Basketball Court; and her AYR mural on Abbot Kinney, Venice.

Opening Day for Gemstone Groceries will be held at Stephanie Chefas Projects on Saturday, February 26th from 1-6pm. Masks are required and social distancing practices are encouraged. Stephanie Chefas Projects is located in Portland, Oregon at 305 SE 3rd Avenue on the second floor of the Urban Row building. The exhibition will be on view through March 26, 2022 and is free and open to the public.
