This May, Stephanie Chefas Projects is delighted to present Portland based artist Tess Rubinstein in the Gallery Annex with 'A Place of Rest'. In her latest collection of work, Rubinstein celebrates the simple pleasures of daily existence. Employing warm hues, shifting shadows and expressive shapes, Rubinstein invites us to bask in the sun's warm rays and relish the sound of a bird's song in the morning. Each painting plays with the boundaries between foreground and background, uniting figure and nature as one interconnected whole. Amidst a culture of fast consumerism, 'A Place of Rest' serves as a reminder to occasionally slow down and enjoy the natural majesty that surrounds us.
Hailing from a foggy mountain in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tess Rubinstein currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon. Her practice is focused on slow culture, using print, digital media and surface design to create approachable and at times functional art. Rubinstein received her BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) in 2017.
The opening reception for 'A Place of Rest' will be held at Stephanie Chefas Projects on Friday, May 4th from 7-10pm. Stephanie Chefas Projects is located in Portland, Oregon at 305 SE 3rd Avenue on the second floor of the Urban Row building. The exhibition will be on view through May 26th, 2018 and is free and open to the public.
