About CHEFAS PROJECTS
CHEFAS PROJECTS is an independent contemporary art gallery founded by Stephanie Chefas in Portland, Oregon. Since 2015, the gallery has presented artists whose work is distinguished by a strong visual language, an independent sensibility, and a willingness to move beyond convention.
The program is intentionally fluid, bringing together emerging and established artists working across painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, and mixed media. What connects the work is not a particular medium or aesthetic, but a shared sense of conviction - an insistence on experimentation, individuality, and the possibilities of contemporary practice.
CHEFAS PROJECTS approaches exhibitions as spaces for discovery. The gallery gives artists room to develop ideas, follow intuition, and pursue work on its own terms. Its program is shaped by close relationships with artists and by a belief that meaningful encounters with art can be immediate and accessible without sacrificing complexity.
From its position in Portland’s Central Eastside, CHEFAS PROJECTS participates in a broader contemporary art dialogue while maintaining an independent perspective. The gallery remains committed to artists who take risks, challenge expectations, and create work that stays with you.
There is no fixed aesthetic, only a point of view: to follow the work, trust the artist, and remain open to what comes next.
