In an evocative new exhibition, ceramist Paige Wright invites audiences into an intimate exploration of memory, identity, and the passage of time through a domestic lens. The Grafted Garnish of the Equinox Baby at Chefas Projects, reimagines traditional display formats and transforms the gallery space into a living tableau, part altar, part cabinet of curiosities, and part autobiographical map.

Rooted in the artist’s personal rituals of object arrangement and collection, The Grated Garnish of the Equinox Baby draws inspiration from the Wunderkammer tradition. Known for assembling ceramics in intuitive, symbolic vignettes within their own home, Wright brings this deeply personal process into public view. The result is a richly layered installation that functions as both a visual archive and a three-dimensional self-portrait.

Organized directionally, with East representing Spring, North as Summer, West as Fall, and South embodying Winter, the table reflects the cyclical nature of identity. At its center stands an embodied self-portrait, anchoring the piece in a sense of presence while inviting reflection on impermanence and transformation.

“The work became a way of mapping how I understand myself, not as something fixed, but as a constantly shifting collection of memories, associations, and seasons,” says Wright. “Each object holds a story, and together they create a portrait of how I move through the world, and how the world moves through me.”

By collapsing the boundaries between the domestic and the formal, the decorative and the sacred, The Grafted Garnish of the Equinox Baby invites viewers to consider how our surroundings, and the ways we curate them, shape our understanding of who we are.

The opening reception for The Grafted Garnish of the Equinox Baby will take place at Chefas Projects on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 5-8 pm. Located in Portland, Oregon, at 134 SE Taylor Street on the first floor of the Taylor Works building, Chefas Projects invites the public to explore this exhibition, which will be on view through October 25, 2025.
