Meegan Barnes is a LA-based artist that celebrates the diversity and humanity of the empowering female form. Through sculpture and paint she highlights the 21st century’s obsession with butts and curves as well as studies the affects of age, environment, and modern day pop culture upon the body.

The female figure first became a primary subject in Barnes’ work after spending an extended time in Brazil. The body acceptance in Brazilian culture was a revelation to the artist and inspired her to celebrate all shapes and sizes in her figurative artwork.

Barnes graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration from CCA, Oakland and SF, California in 1996. She started her career working as an illustrator for Vibe Magazine and later Co-founded and directed the multi-cultural lifestyle brand called Femme Arsenal. In 2015, Barnes decided to follow her passion to become a full-time sculptor and painter. As an emerging artist in her 40’s she hopes to inspire others to follow their hearts and whatever it is that brings them the most joy.
