Los Angeles, CA — Artist Luke Forsyth unveils his upcoming exhibition, Beyond the Gates, on view from April 10 through May 9, 2026. This new body of work invites viewers into a vividly imagined world where color, symbolism, and dreamlike architecture converge.

Through joyful and exuberant color, Forsyth creates paintings that are both transportive and immersive. Rooted in a surreal visual language guided by an internal dream logic, the works celebrate beauty and wonder while encouraging viewers to move beyond the boundaries of everyday perception. Architectural elements—doors, windows, and thresholds—recur throughout the exhibition, functioning as portals or vestibules into alternate realms. Subtle references to spiritual dwellings and “spirit houses” suggest that these gateways may exist just beyond the familiar spaces we inhabit.

Forsyth’s compositions balance playful imagination with a reverence for traditional imagery. Drawing on motifs such as flowers and landscapes, his work embraces a universal simplicity while maintaining a dynamic visual tension. Frequently set against deep, chalkboard-black backgrounds, his vibrant mark-making achieves a striking contrast that amplifies the emotional resonance of each piece.

Born in 1982 in Arcata, California, Luke Forsyth currently lives and works in Los Angeles. His practice is deeply informed by California art traditions, fine art illustration, and a sustained engagement with art historical research. Over the course of his professional career, Forsyth’s work has been acquired by hospitals, financial institutions, and private collectors.

Beyond the Gates offers a compelling invitation to step through the threshold of the ordinary and into a world shaped by imagination, color, and possibility.
