Chefas Projects is pleased to present Where Do Geese Fly at Night?, San Francisco–based artist Lindsay Stripling's debut solo exhibition with the gallery.

Through luminous watercolor paintings, Stripling creates dreamlike worlds where memory, intuition, and the rhythms of the natural world converge. Her imagined landscapes and nature-infused portraits blur the boundaries between observation and imagination, inviting viewers into spaces where storytelling becomes a means of navigating identity, belonging, and transformation.

Rooted in experimentation, texture, and play, Stripling's practice embraces watercolor as both a precise and unpredictable medium. Layers of transparent color accumulate into richly atmospheric compositions that evoke fleeting memories, quiet psychological states, and the mysterious logic of dreams. Plants, animals, and human figures coexist in environments that feel at once deeply familiar and gently surreal, suggesting a world in which the human experience is inseparable from the more-than-human landscape.

Throughout Where Do Geese Fly at Night?, Stripling explores themes of nature, time, community, psychology, and personal mythology. Rather than offering fixed narratives, her paintings unfold as open-ended visual poems, encouraging viewers to project their own memories and emotional landscapes into the work. Each composition balances meticulous craftsmanship with a spirit of curiosity, revealing beauty in uncertainty and wonder in the everyday.

The exhibition's title poses a deceptively simple question, one that gestures toward the unseen journeys taking place beyond the limits of perception. Like migratory paths traced through darkness, Stripling's paintings invite contemplation of the invisible forces that shape our relationships with ourselves, one another, and the natural world.

Lindsay Stripling is a San Francisco–based painter, illustrator, and educator. Working primarily in watercolor, she explores the intersections of storytelling, memory, dreams, and ecology through richly layered paintings that combine intimate portraiture with expansive natural imagery. Where Do Geese Fly at Night? marks her first solo exhibition with Chefas Projects.
