Stephanie Chefas Projects is delighted to present Find Ourselves Here, the gallery’s second solo exhibition by Chicago-based artist Laura Berger. In this latest collection, Berger continues to explore themes of existentialism and community within the framework of her signature aesthetic. Against a backdrop of warm, minimalist colorways, female figures synchronize to near-ritualistic effect. The kinetic flow between their simplified forms cultivates pure visual harmony, though not to the point of rendering individualism obsolete. It's through their totemic dance that Berger's completely identifiable iconography comes bursting to life.

Despite its timeless and almost mythological vibe, Berger's work remains transfixed by the here and now. Grappling with environmental issues and socio-political ones alike, pieces such as "Carry Each Other, Ourselves" and "Flower" reinforce the spirit of communal support. Conveyed subtly but poignantly is the notion that humanity itself is in a potential moment of reckoning. The show's title thereby takes on a dual meaning, reflecting upon this point in time as we determine who we are as a species and how we want to move forward.

The reception for Find Ourselves Here will be held at Stephanie Chefas Projects on Saturday, December 7th from 5-8pm. Stephanie Chefas Projects is located in Portland, Oregon at 305 SE 3rd Avenue on the second floor of the Urban Row building. The exhibition will be on view through January 4, 2020 and is free and open to the public.
