John Vitale (b. 1979) is a self-taught abstract painter based in Brooklyn, New York, where he lives and maintains a studio in Sunset Park. His work has been exhibited internationally, including in Taiwan, across the West Coast, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and throughout New York City. His paintings are held in public and private collections around the world.

Vitale’s paintings explore the complexity of the human experience through a visual language of organic forms, lines, planes, and rich color fields. Each work unfolds as an isolated experiment, a meditation on texture, space, and emotion, where the dialogue between mark and erasure becomes central. His process is meticulous and intuitive; after weeks of unresolved exploration, a subtle shift, a single mark, the removal of one, a minute adjustment in color or contour, can suddenly complete a piece.

Vitale’s paintings explore the complexity of the human experience through a visual language of organic forms, lines, planes, and rich color fields.

Working with acrylics, house paints, enamels, pencils, canvas scraps, and oil sticks, Vitale layers materials to create tangible records of time and experience. His practice seeks to deconstruct and compartmentalize the daily chaos of contemporary life, transforming it into meditative visual structure. Each painting serves as both an inquiry and an act of understanding, a means to process the relentless influx of information that defines modern existence.
