Jack Graydon (b. 1989) is a painter and sculptor based in Brooklyn, New York. He received his BFA in painting from Pacific Northwest College of Art. His work draws from aesthetics of traditional/abstract painting, cartoons, graffiti, and folk art. He works professionally as a set builder and art handler. In his off time can be found painting on walls, skateboarding, watching trains, painting in his studio with his dog Gus, and sitting down by the river. His work has been exhibited locally and internationally in Austria, Canada, and Greece. He has also worked commercially with various clients including Vans, Pabst, and Vice.
Jack’s paintings focus on iconography and forms derived from traditional paintings, graffiti, and cartoons. His imagery depicts abstracted letter forms, stills from animation, plant life, and some more unsettling intestinal shapes. The framework for his paintings are spray paint like airbrush lines. The lines are pushed and pulled back by the surrounding colors and often lost or faded out. Focusing on spontaneity and experimentation, he uses painting to distort, crop, fold and abstract line work into a dream-like landscape.
The opening reception for Making Arrangements will be held at Chefas Projects on Friday, June 2nd from 5-8pm. Chefas Projects is located in Portland, Oregon at 134 SE Taylor Street on the first floor of the Taylor Works building. The exhibition will be on view through July 1, 2023 and is free and open to the public.
