Utilizing elements of architecture, geometry, and pattern, Ben Willis continues to explore the relationship between various colors and materials. The resulting work is mesmerizing, otherworldly, and impossible to resist. More than multi-layered, Willis' square-shaped pieces exhibit alien-like qualities as they emanate with vivid three-dimensional identity.
Tactile and visceral, each piece consumes the space around it like a vortex. Hovering just beyond the transfixing veneer are themes of subjectivity and euphoria. Ultimately, Willis' signature squares are designed to function as metaphors for satisfying treats, poised to stimulate or even overwhelm the senses when taken as a whole. As impressive they might appear in photos, they must be seen in person to be fully experienced and appreciated.
