On October 29th, Stephanie Chefas Projects is delighted to announce a one day event with a collection of paintings by Portland based artist Tanmaya Bingham entitled ‘Instinctual Feast’. Marking Bingham as a newly represented artist with the gallery, the special event offers an exclusive viewing of her signature aesthetic, which exquisitely renders realistic figures against abstract backgrounds. Tanmaya Bingham’s subject matter is a direct reflection of her ongoing fascination with the human condition. Using people and animals as focal points to retain familiarity, Bingham places her figures within an oblique context or unusual frame of reference. It is through these exaggerated renditions of life that the artist cultivates her own unique and captivating style.
A series of hand-drawn and painted artworks, ‘Instinctual Feast’ represents the ever-elusive state of love. By incorporating religious objects and intermingling animal forms with human figures, Bingham’s work prompts the viewer to contemplate the many facets of love in all its mystery and spirituality. The artist explores our attachment to the concept of love, its pleasure and its pain, and what it means to be human. Ultimately, she asks: how does love connect with our humanity? That is the question Bingham grapples with and aspires to answer through ‘Instinctual Feast’.
The reception for 'Instinctual Feast' will be held at Stephanie Chefas Projects on Sunday, October 29th from 3-7pm. Stephanie Chefas Projects is located in Portland, Oregon at 305 SE 3rd Avenue on the second floor of the Urban Row building. Tanmaya Bingham will be in attendance and complimentary refreshments will be served. The one day exhibition is free and open to the public.
