SOLO EXHIBIT | OCTOBER 6 - 28, 2017
This October, Stephanie Chefas Projects is delighted to welcome New York based artist Mike Lee with his first solo at the gallery, 'Stasis'. Poignantly using soft lines, round shapes and smooth gradients, Lee reduces his subjects to their most basic forms. As if floating through the ether, his abstract figures bend, fold, and stretch in mid-air. A minimal palette of black and white creates a sombre tone while the weightlessness of each subject induces feelings of tranquility and rebirth, thereby lightening the monochromatic atmosphere. Time and space are captured in a rare state of repose and the world of the viewer drifts vicariously.
As the title suggests, Lee's latest body of work explores moments of solitude, transition and stillness. "With each passing year, the speed in which life appears to go by is ever increasing," states Lee. "I find it harder to slow down and these paintings reflect the brief periods when I can pause to find clarity and peace."
The opening reception for Stasis will be held at Stephanie Chefas Projects on Friday, October 6th from 7-10pm. Stephanie Chefas Projects is located in Portland, Oregon at 305 SE 3rd Avenue on the second floor of the Urban Row building. The exhibition will be on view through October 28, 2017 and is free and open to the public.
