KRISTIN TEXEIRA

SONG SOUNDS OF YOUTH and the DESERT DREAM

GALLERY ANNEX | JUNE 1 - 30, 2018

This June, Stephanie Chefas Projects is delighted to present artist Kristin Texeira in the Gallery Annex with 'Song Sounds of Youth and the Desert Dream'. In her latest collection of work, Texeira captures moments in time through various techniques, including paint, collage, sketches, and the written word. By mixing the poetics of personal experience with an unmistakable color palette, Texeira deciphers the sensation of meeting new places and the people. This process preserves memories as tangible 'maps', and becomes the vessel by which viewers are ferried back to a particular moment, again and again.

"I paint to remember", states Texeira. "Through subtle shifts in colors or ranges of contrasting colors, I attempt to create something familiar, and—at the same time—something entirely elusive and intangible, like a forgotten word on the tip of one's tongue. My colors blend and bounce off of each other. They tell of a person or place's ambiguous history. This vagueness is complemented by specifics in my writing, which—while focusing on a moment's singular identity and tender details—leaves much to the viewers' interpretation."

The opening reception for 'Song Sounds of Youth and the Desert Dream' will be held at Stephanie Chefas Projects on Friday, June 1st from 7-10pm. Stephanie Chefas Projects is located in Portland, Oregon at 305 SE 3rd Avenue on the second floor of the Urban Row building. The exhibition will be on view through June 30, 2017 and is free and open to the public.
