A GROUP THING
Exhibition Dates: May 5 - 27, 2017
On May 5th, Stephanie Chefas Projects is delighted to present ‘A Group Thing’, which rides the communal vibe of nine artists in one space. As a celebration of both individual style and strength in numbers, ‘A Group Thing’ showcases a collection of mixed-media, acrylic, watercolor, and ceramics by artists John Felix Arnold III, Alexandra Becker-Black, Laura Berger, Tanmaya Bingham, Ryan Bubnis, Kellen Chasuk, Kelly Ording, Godeleine de Rosamel, and Ryan Whelan.
An underlying theme of unification by way of singular vision abounds, and can be seen most directly within the work of Portland based artist Ryan Bubnis. Using discarded paint stirrers as his canvas, Bubnis creates distinct illustrative figures who stand shoulder to shoulder in unison, smiling widely as if welcoming guests and one another alike. Exploring similar thematic terrain is Laura Berger, whose playful naked figures draw upon ideas of interconnectedness and inclusion in stunning detail. Newcomer Kellen Chasuk puts her unique visual spin on social activities that always go down better with friends.
The opening reception for 'A Group Thing' will be held at Stephanie Chefas Projects on Friday, May 5th from 7-10pm. Stephanie Chefas Projects is located in Portland, Oregon at 305 SE 3rd Avenue on the second floor of the Urban Row building. The exhibition will be on view through May 27, 2017 and is free and open to the public.
